Urgent Update

Hello Everyone,

"Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love" (2 John 3).

On Sunday, October 20, 2013 I was working on our property in Oklahoma trying to connect water from our well to our mobile home. I was working 14 foot off of the ground and fell head first to a concrete floor where I broke both bones, one in two places, in the lower part of my right arm and fractured my skull in a few places. The accident occurred around 6:30pm. My wife was in town and was not planning to be home until after 10:00pm. Praise the Lord our neighbor's walk that day was delayed and I was right in the middle of her usual route. She spoke to me and handed some tools to me on her first trip past. On her way back she saw that I had fallen and called for help. I believe that I was very close to death, but God delivered me. I was rushed to the hospital where I received excellent care. Thank you so much for all your prayers.

Monday, October 21, 2013. My first day in ICU. I have no memories of before the accident or two days after.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013. My doctors and nurses were amazed by how quickly I was getting better. I only have vague memories from this day.

From November 2:

I was in the hospital for 12 days. I am now home from the hospital and doing much better. I still have some serious injuries, but God is with me. On this Sabbath morning the Lord woke me up early and filled my mind with overwhelming thankfulness for each of you. I am amazed at the overwhelming kindness shown to me by each of you. Many people came to see me in the hospital, many posted comments of encouragement on Facebook, and many people offered prayers to God on my behalf. Thank you so much to each of you. This morning I was thinking of all this and God’s kindness shown to me, and it hit me; all of the kindness shown to me by my friends was a result of God working on their hearts. Whether you told someone about my problem, asking them to pray for me, or prayed for me yourself, or whether you posted encouraging words on Facebook, or came to see me in the hospital, or called me to share your support, you all did it in response to the Spirit of God working on your hearts. So, all of your kindness reinforces the kindness of our heavenly Father in prompting you to show that kindness. I am amazed at how thoroughly God cares for me, and how close He is to each of us. God is closer to each of you, and more concerned for your welfare than you have ever imagined. Thank you for responding to God’s promptings upon your hearts. I love each of you dearly. Have a wonderful Sabbath!

From Tuesday, November 5

I had a visit with the eye doctor today. He said he was amazed that my eyes were as clear as they are. He said there is no swelling in the optic nerves, nor bleeding in the eyes. He gave me a clean bill of health for my eyes, and expects a full recovery. The blurry vision has cleared up, and I now have special glasses that eliminate dizziness. I can go a few hours at a time with nothing on my eyes. Praise God for answered prayers.

From Thursday, November 7

On November 7 I had an appointment with the doctor who repaired my hand. I was shocked to see the extent of the damage done to my arm. This was the first time I had seen it that I can remember. I believe that just as God has blessed in so many ways to restore my mind, He will heal my arm also. Please continue to pray for me. Your prayers mean so much to me. This is my right arm, and I am right handed. I use it to write Bible studies for Present Truth, so it is very important to me. Below is a picture of my hand, and the x-rays, all of which were taken on November 7. I appreciate all your prayers.

An Amazing Miracle

One of the most startling miracles of my injury is how God removed my pain. This is especially significant to me after seeing the x-rays of my arm. It is almost unbelievable what happened. My wife told me this story. It happened at a time when I cannot remember. It happened the first night of my injury, Sunday, October 20, 2013. My wife, Kendra, tells me that I was in excruciating pain, so much so that I pleaded with her to cut my arm off to get rid of the pain. Some of my friends who were there confirmed this report. I was not thinking very clearly, but I was certainly in a great deal of pain. The pain was so great Sunday night that I could not sleep. Finally, my wife prayed to God to remove my pain, quoting the verse in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that says, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." Immediately, I became calm and went to sleep. I slept through the night and woke up the next morning with no pain. A nurse came in to administer pain medication. I asked what it was for. She said it would help get rid of the pain. I told her that I don't need it because I don't have any pain. She couldn't believe it and continued trying to give me pain medicine. I refused so she left me alone. Every so often the nurse would return to give me pain medicine. I refused it every time, and never complained about pain again for the next 11 days in the hospital. Monday evening, my second night in the hospital they brought me in to do surgery on my arm, as you can see above. They put me to sleep to do this invasive surgery. When I awoke there was still no pain. Again the doctors and nurses could not believe it. It is unheard of to endure such an invasive surgery with no pain. I continually refused pain medication every time they tried to give it to me. The only explanation I can come up with is that God removed the pain from me at my wife's request. What a great God we serve. This happened at a time when I was not in my right mind. I could not pray for myself. I thank God for answering the prayers of others on my behalf. Friends, take courage, nothing is too hard for God, and He is very concerned about every detail of your life.

From November 22:

Thank you so much for your prayers. God has been so good and has answered many prayers. I am doing much better. I am blessed to be alive. Yesterday was the first day I went the whole day without glasses to correct my vision. My vision has been affected because my brain injury prevented me from having enough brain power to merge the two conflicting visions from where my sight from each eye overlapped. God made us with the amazing ability to see two different angles and have it appear to us that we are only seeing one item. For over a week I had double vision and it was blurry and gave me a headache. If I would cover one eye I could see great with no problem. For the first 11 days in the hospital I had to cover one eye to be able to see clearly. It didn't matter which eye. I would switch eyes every day to prevent eye damage. I was given a pirate's patch to accomplish this.

After 11 days in the hospital I was blessed to have a new occupational therapist who had just learned in college how the brain works with the eyes. She asked me if she could do a test on me. She covered part of both of my eyes with two strips of plastic that covered about a half inch on either side of my nose, which blocked out much of the overlap of my two eyes. She asked if I had double or blurry vision. I looked around and was surprised that I could see clearly with both eyes. Then she asked if I had dizziness or a headache. I did not feel any dizziness. I was amazed that such a simple solution could fix my problem. She told me that if my wife would buy me some sunglasses she would remove the lenses and tape something along both sides of the nose to cut down on the amount of overlap from my eyes. This she did, and I have been wearing these funny looking glasses ever since. I was very happy to learn about this. You can test the amount of overlap you have by stretching your arm out in front of you, and close your left eye. Move your hand left until it is blocked by your nose. Now switch eyes and move your hand right until it is blocked by your nose. If you are like me you have about a 45 degree angle of overlap. My glasses cut that down to about 7 degrees. It requires a lot of brain power to process a 45 degree overlap. Fortunately, God created us with a powerful brain.

My brain injury is improving. I do not have double vision any more, and I have been able to go longer and longer periods without dizziness. But just yesterday was the first day I made it through the whole day without glasses. I have not worn them today either. Praise the Lord! He is so good. When I explained this to one of my friends, he exclaimed, "That proves we did not evolve from rocks. If so we would have only evolved one eye in the center of our face. You can get along just fine with only one eye." I had to agree with him. The Bible says, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalms 139:14). I am glad that God blessed us with two eyes, and He is restoring my vision. Thank you for all your prayers.

My funny glasses that temporarily fixed my vision problems.

I am writing this with my left hand because my right hand is still difficult to use. Please continue to pray for me. Two days ago was the first time I was able to write a letter with both hands. I can only do this for a short time, but it is a big improvement from a week ago. Thank God for answered prayers.

November 22 - My scars are looking a lot better than they did two weeks ago.

November 22 - This is as far as I can close my hand.

Please continue to pray for me that my hand will regain all of its function. I trust that the God who preserved my life and healed my brain will also heal my hand.

The Lord has been so good. He has taken this injury and worked it out for good in so many ways. If you would like current updates of my progress and the amazing blessings that result, visit our Present Truth Facebook page by searching for "Present Truth" on Facebook.com.

Please continue to pray for me and be patient with receiving Present Truth. Thank you so much for your prayers and understanding.
