Urgent Update
Monday, October 21, 2013. My first day in ICU. I have no memories of before the accident or two days after.
Wednesday, October 23, 2013. My doctors and nurses were amazed by how quickly I was getting better. I only have vague memories from this day.
From Tuesday, November 5 I had a visit with the eye doctor today. He said he was amazed that my eyes were as clear as they are. He said there is no swelling in the optic nerves, nor bleeding in the eyes. He gave me a clean bill of health for my eyes, and expects a full recovery. The blurry vision has cleared up, and I now have special glasses that eliminate dizziness. I can go a few hours at a time with nothing on my eyes. Praise God for answered prayers.
From Thursday, November 7 On November 7 I had an appointment with the doctor who repaired my hand. I was shocked to see the extent of the damage done to my arm. This was the first time I had seen it that I can remember. I believe that just as God has blessed in so many ways to restore my mind, He will heal my arm also. Please continue to pray for me. Your prayers mean so much to me. This is my right arm, and I am right handed. I use it to write Bible studies for Present Truth, so it is very important to me. Below is a picture of my hand, and the x-rays, all of which were taken on November 7. I appreciate all your prayers.
An Amazing Miracle One of the most startling miracles of my injury is how God removed my pain. This is especially significant to me after seeing the x-rays of my arm. It is almost unbelievable what happened. My wife told me this story. It happened at a time when I cannot remember. It happened the first night of my injury, Sunday, October 20, 2013. My wife, Kendra, tells me that I was in excruciating pain, so much so that I pleaded with her to cut my arm off to get rid of the pain. Some of my friends who were there confirmed this report. I was not thinking very clearly, but I was certainly in a great deal of pain. The pain was so great Sunday night that I could not sleep. Finally, my wife prayed to God to remove my pain, quoting the verse in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that says, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." Immediately, I became calm and went to sleep. I slept through the night and woke up the next morning with no pain. A nurse came in to administer pain medication. I asked what it was for. She said it would help get rid of the pain. I told her that I don't need it because I don't have any pain. She couldn't believe it and continued trying to give me pain medicine. I refused so she left me alone. Every so often the nurse would return to give me pain medicine. I refused it every time, and never complained about pain again for the next 11 days in the hospital. Monday evening, my second night in the hospital they brought me in to do surgery on my arm, as you can see above. They put me to sleep to do this invasive surgery. When I awoke there was still no pain. Again the doctors and nurses could not believe it. It is unheard of to endure such an invasive surgery with no pain. I continually refused pain medication every time they tried to give it to me. The only explanation I can come up with is that God removed the pain from me at my wife's request. What a great God we serve. This happened at a time when I was not in my right mind. I could not pray for myself. I thank God for answering the prayers of others on my behalf. Friends, take courage, nothing is too hard for God, and He is very concerned about every detail of your life. From November 22: Thank you so much for your prayers. God has
been so good and has answered many prayers. I am doing much better. I am blessed
to be alive. Yesterday was the first day I went the whole day without glasses to
correct my vision. My vision has been affected because my brain injury prevented
me from having enough brain power to merge the two conflicting visions from
where my sight from each eye overlapped. God made us with the amazing ability to
see two different angles and have it appear to us that we are only seeing one
item. For over a week I had double vision and it was blurry and gave me a
headache. If I would cover one eye I could see great with no problem. For the
first 11 days in the hospital I had to cover one eye to be able to see clearly.
It didn't matter which eye. I would switch eyes every day to prevent eye damage.
I was given a pirate's patch to accomplish this.
My funny glasses that temporarily fixed my vision problems.
November 22 - My scars are looking a lot better than they did two weeks ago.
November 22 - This is as far as I can close my hand. Please continue to pray for me that my hand will regain all of its function. I trust that the God who preserved my life and healed my brain will also heal my hand.
